Many thanks to LitFuse for allowing me the opportunity to review the new book, Lead Your Family Like Jesus which is co-authored by Ken Blanchard, Phil Hodges, and Tricia Goyer.
When it comes to Christian parenting, where can you turn for guidance on how to raise your children? Do you look towards the “parenting gurus” of our day who are steeped in the world? Do you fly by the seat of your pants and end up parenting similar to the way you were raised? Or should you be looking towards Jesus for the example of how to lead your family? That is precisely what is tackled in the new book for Christian parenting, Lead Your Family Like Jesus from Focus on The Family and Tyndale Publishers.
About Lead Your Family Like Jesus, a Christian Parenting Title
Powerful Parenting Principles from the Creator of Families
(Focus on the Family/Tyndale) – Does your family need a five-star general at the helm? A psychologist? A referee? Ken Blanchard, best-selling co-author of The One Minute Manager and Lead Like Jesus, points to a better role model: the Son of God. Joined by veteran parents and authors Phil Hodges and Tricia Goyer, renowned business mentor Blanchard shows how every family member benefits when parents take the reins as servant-leaders. Moms and dads will see themselves in a whole new light-as life-changers who get their example, strength, and joy from following Jesus at home. This user-friendly book’s practical principles and personal stories mark the path to a truly Christ-centered family, where integrity, love, grace, self-sacrifice, and forgiveness make all the difference.

My Thoughts on Lead Your Family Like Jesus,
a Christian Parenting Title
If I had to pick one word to describe this book it would be powerful. Beyond the wealth of experience the three authors bring to this title, you can see their love of the Lord coming through the pages as well. I appreciated their body approach to the text organization: The Heart, The Head, The Hands, and The Habits. Throughout it all, the parent has to remember that we are called to serve others and that without focus on God we are prone to falling flat on our faces.
I am slowly integrating suggestions from this title into my own approach at parenting the boys. I’ve always focused on having them know and love God, but have to admit to occasionally falling victim to listening to the world about how to best raise them in some aspects of their life. Those are the areas where I see ‘failure’ in my parenting style and have been falling on my knees a LOT more recently to allow God to mold me and guide me for all aspects of my life, including parenting. Once I set aside my EGO, things typically improve and this book has been a great reminder of that one simple step to grow closer to God and have a more grace filled life.
The bigger challenge for me is to get my husband to read this title. I plan to slowly share little tidbits with him in the hopes that he’ll be inspired (through some gentle prodding of the Holy Spirit) to read it on his own so we can have a unified approach in the house and reap the reward when the boys are adults and parenting their own children.
How do you look towards Jesus when setting the example in your home?
