I am always looking for ways to help teach the boys about the struggles people face and how blessed our family is. We continually look for ways to help the less fortunate, whether by donating items we do not use, making cash donations, or giving of our time. Inspiring children to help others this Christmas Season with The Sparkle Box is one more avenue for me to help my younger boys learn to appreciate what we have and share our blessings with others.
About The Sparkle Box
Sam is so excited about Christmas! He’s thinking about his Christmas list, looking forward to holiday parties, and puzzling over one very mysterious gift: a sparkly box sitting on the mantel. In the midst of the festivities, Sam and his family participate in various acts of kindness to others. On Christmas morning, when Sam finally opens the Sparkle Box, he finds only slips of paper that record the family’s good deeds. Sam’s mom explains that the things that they’ve been doing are, in fact, a gift for Jesus, for Jesus said that whatever we do for those in need, we do for Him.

Author Jill Hardie and her family began placing a gift for Jesus under their Christmas tree as a way of bringing more meaning to the holiday. The first time they opened His gift, the commercialism of the season melted away and they felt a profound joy and peace. Jill hopes that The Sparkle Box will spark a new Christmas tradition, bringing light into thousands of lives.
At a very early age, Christine Kornacki developed a love for painting and bringing stories to life. After receiving a BFA in illustration from the University of Hartford, her dreams of illustrating children’s books began to take shape. She spends her days painting in her studio, which adjoins a charming cafe in New Haven, Connecticut.
Our Thoughts on The Sparkle Box
J and I have really enjoyed reading this title. The illustrations are delightful and he loves hearing the story as Sam learns to reach out and help others in need. What I love is the point in the story when Sam not only is recognizing the need, but makes the conscious choice to use his own money to bless another.
He adores the small ‘do it yourself’ sparkle box that comes inside the back cover. It’s now put together and sitting on our mantle awaiting paper slips to be placed as we take action to bless others this holiday season.
I plan to have my older boys be the reader occasionally so they get the benefit of exposure. All of them have helped in some regard to feed and clothe those in need whether by helping with collections or at distribution for the holidays.
This title would make a wonderful read aloud for the children in your life or even as a gift for under the Christmas tree so they might have it for future holiday seasons.
