Well, I had another short hiatus for reporting in on Fit Mommy Friday. So, I’ll share what I did while in Louisiana to keep fit and what is planned to happen now that I’m back up in Alaska.
First off….an upside to being in someone else’s house is that I don’t just go raiding the pantry when hunger strikes. My parents’ house had plenty of goodies (some bought specifically for the kids since we were visiting.) But, I decided to make a real effort to keep my snacking to a minimum. Of course, with all the rich food from my sister’s reception it was not the best start. You can’t just let that stuff go to waste, ya’ know! Then, there was the baking spree my aunt went on with the boys (each having a turn to help her bake something.) Three cakes plus a batch of pizelles got made during the 2 weeks.
But, I managed to eat a balanced diet with some splurging on the homemade goodies. LOTS of water drinking happened while I was there, too.
Fitness wise, I took the boys for a few walks to neighborhood parks. I spent a reasonable amount of time shadowing Little J as he explored all the fun items Nana and Papa have in their house. Papa also decided it was the right time to get his own Wii and I found Wii Active marked down at Sam’s Club there. I couldn’t even get through the full workout (easy level for 20 minutes!) the first time through. Plus, I knew I was working my muscles when my glutes and thighs kept talking at me for a few days post workout. The animated trainer did say that my thighs would thank me some day for all the squats and lunges. It wasn’t thanks coming at me, though. BUT, I can say that the second time I was able to complete the entire routine and I wasn’t sore afterwards. Gotta love muscle memory!
Now, the scale at Nana and Papa’s house said I was weighing more than when I left Alaska. It also said that Little J weighed 2 pounds more than he was at home. So, I avoided the scale (except for weighing suitcases before our trip back) and just kept plodding along as best I could.
Net result…..I saw a lower number on my scale the day after our return. I figured some of it might have been water weight (as long plane rides lead to dehydration.) While I noticed it go up a little after I started hydrating my body, it is back to the same lower number as of this morning. Doing math in my head, I’m now down a total of 7 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight this time around. If I drop another 10 pounds, I’ll be back to where I was pre-pregnancy with R. Then it’s just another 10 pounds to my final goal weight.
The other upside to the trip…. some new clothes that fit me. (I’m now too skinny for most women’s sizes…a good thing for certain.)
continue to watch my eating. This might be challenging as the shorter, gloomier days here make me feel like snacking.
Water consumption needs to be maintained at levels I had back in Louisiana. For that to happen, I need to get a filtration system as I spotted some floaters in the well water the other day.
I’m going to get back to using the Wii Fit and now the Wii Active on a regular basis.
Finally….sleep might be my new way to avoid overeating this winter. After all, I can’t eat while I sleep.
Here’s hoping for more weight loss and the excuse to get rid of my ‘big’ clothes for good.
