For the past few years, I have been using a paid service to help me manage my editorial calendar and social media sharing. While there are free options, there are a few reasons why CoSchedule is awesome for bloggers.
I wrote a bit about the original platform in a post titled, Managing Your Editorial Calendar and Social Media Strategy with CoSchedule. However, it has changed significantly in some areas which bear mentioning.

Reasons Bloggers Win When Using CoSchedule
Let me start by saying that I hate to spend money if I think there is another way to do something. That’s the reason there are many unfinished projects at my house. I just know that I can do it and save money. Yet, it sits undone.
When it comes to blogging, you can not ignore social media. The days of hitting publish and seeing several people quickly find your post are gone.
Now, you can always go straight to each social media platform and share. Or, you can use other scheduling platforms which offer a free option. However, there are things that make CoSchedule the preferred service of choice for many bloggers.
#1 CoSchedule Keeps ALL Your Social Shares on a Calendar
This is hands down the #1 reason bloggers win when they use CoSchedule. I do have a Google spreadsheet where I track some of my social sharing. However, I love the ease of setting up a series of social shares when I create a blog post. And, with the exception of Google Plus, you can easily grab the URL for each share from your CoSchedule calendar.
Why is this so handy?
Well, if you are doing any sponsored campaigns with the need to report back all of your social shares, this is gold. When I was tracking everything by hand and forgot, I would be trying to scan and search my social media threads to find all my shares. Now I can just go to the blog post where it all originates and grab the links.
Now, I will mention a limitation. If you ever cancel your CoSchedule service, then you do not have those links preserved. So, I am maintaining my backup spreadsheet for some campaigns just in case.
#2 CoSchedule Integrates with WordPress
While you can use CoSchedule off your site, being able to set everything up when you write a blog post is awesome. One less tab open on my computer is great as I often have at least 5 or 6 tabs open at a time already!
If you don’t want to be on WordPress, you can go straight to their site and log into your calendar.
#3 CoSchedule Allows You to Do Social Shares Without A Blog Post
I’ll admit that this feature is one I’ve only started to do. I somehow never really looked at this function.
However, tied with reason #1, I really want those links for social share only campaigns to be at my finger tips.
I’ve also used this to schedule out some of my tweets for a Twitter party.
#4 You Can Quickly Move Scheduled Activities to a Different Day
I had a different plugin for years that showed me my editorial calendar. All it showed was blog posts.
CoSchedule lets me see both my blog posting activity as well as scheduled social shares.
If I see that a social media campaign is set to publish a 8 a.m., I can make sure that a social share on the same network for a blog post goes out at a different time. Or, I can drag and drop posts that have not been published to a different day.
#5 CoSchedule Integrates with all the Major Social Media Channels
Want to get your post pushed through to all your social media channels from one spot? Then you’ll love the ease of this platform. Since I began using them, Instagram and Pinterest have been added as options.
I’ve only used it for Google + (page), Facebook and Twitter. However, I am considering adding Instagram and Pinterest as other profiles soon.
#6 Tracking How Well Your Posts are Doing on Social Media
With the Top Content Report, you can see which posts are doing the best on social media. From this page, you can easily opt to share those same posts.
For my all time content, I already know which has the most shares as it also has the most views. Aside from all time, you can also look at what was published in the past 7 days, past 30 days or in the past year.
Now, this is limited as they currently do not have a way to track Twitter. If you get little interaction there, it makes little difference. But, for someone like me who does, it has be filled in from elsewhere to get a complete picture.

Downside to CoSchedule
If there is a single downside to CoSchedule, it is the pricing. When I began years ago it was around $10 per month. Now, the lowest priced option is $15 per month which gives you one user and 5 social profiles.
To get all the nifty features they offer, you can easily spend $60 per month for one site.
And, they do not offer a way to integrate multiple calendars at a low cost which bloggers can afford. This is an issue for those of us with multiple sites, but not a bit budget.
Even with the expense, I find that CoSchedule saves me a lot of time. It is quicker to do a batch add of social shares off the post I am writing. This way, I can have that post going out on regular intervals with set messaging without thinking more about it.
I can honestly say that CoSchedule is definitely worth the price to me.
