I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
-1- This past weekend, our family was able to preview the new movie, The Mighty Macs, to do a review. It hits movie theaters today and I highly recommend it for anyone wanting a family friendly movie that leaves you feeling good.
I was so anxious to post our review, that I didn’t include photos there (I plan to add them in to dress the post up a bit.) Here’s a shot of the ‘real’ team from the press materials I was provided.
-2- On a related thread, so far as it has to do with Hollywood, spots around Anchorage are being taken over by crews for the film (Frozen Ground) about serial killer Robert Hansen. The movie stars John Cusak as Hansen and Nicholas Cage as the trooper working the case to find the killer.
Why am I mentioning it? First because we drove past an area that was being filmed which P thought was cool just knowing some ‘famous’ people could have been near by. And, secondly because I now am wishing I’d sent an email about auditioning for a bit part or spot as an extra. I did theater in junior and senior high and have a residual ‘itch’ to do some acting again. Maybe the next time a production crew comes up this way I’ll try my hand at it.
-3- In case I haven’t mentioned it before now, Alaska seems to have a disproportionate number of places to buy a cup of coffee or other beverage. My sister, Sara, commented that many they saw during their trip here also sold ice cream. Well, after 19 months of living here I finally went to Jitters in Eagle River for a coffee.
I was meeting a few other Catholic homeschooling mothers. It’s a great environment there, but what I was really impressed with was how much they want to please the customer. I ordered a special of the month beverage (pumpkin and praline latte), but found it too bitter for my taste. I went back to the counter to get some sugar or whipped cream to take the edge of the taste and was offered the opportunity to have a new drink made for me instead. Awesome customer service! I’ll be back and wonder if I wasn’t happy with something at the ‘big’ named coffee shop if they’d replace it free of charge.
-4- This past weekend had Mr. O and I patronizing another local business that I’d been eyeing up for a while.
Tinker’s Rainforest Deli had a coupon in the big book of coupons which expired last Saturday. So, we did ‘take out for lunch and really enjoyed our sandwiches and soup. I knew it would be a good option as my parents went there when they visited us this summer. I now have a hankering for cranberry sauce on turkey sandwiches. (I had turkey with swiss and cranberry sauce all on a croissant for my sandwich. Super yummy heated up!)
-5- D is so excited to be learning a bit about sewing in our co-op. I originally had him in a math games class, but after he begged me I got him switched into sewing. I snagged a quick pic last week as he learned to sew a straight line on the sewing machine.
-6- The number of toys available for the boys to use has gone down again. After several days of finding Playmobil everywhere and never picked up, I had Mr. O take it out of the house before we got home from co-op. At this rate, I might get a more orderly house just by removing more things from the house.
-7- I think the time has come to pull out my ‘happy’ light. The sun does not rise until a little after 8 a.m. and I have a hard time dragging myself out of bed before then. It wouldn’t be so bad if I was a more relaxed homeschooler or the boys were intrinsically motivated. But, I foresee less work done if I want to just curl up and sleep. Who knew that getting up and starting your day would be such a hard thing to do?
