Every boy starts with the same basic kit, molding it into the car they envision. Our boys have not been motivated to design a super slick car with the ability to make the top 3 in competition. But, the journey of making their car is still fun and they do pretty much all of the work.
There are times when I almost wish we had our own small track so they could enjoy racing their vehicles long after the official race is over. At the least, I’m thinking I need to make a static display of the different Pinewood Derby cars over the years.
Now, for those that haven’t seen Down and Derby, take a quick peek at the trailer for it. (I’m thinking we’ll have to do a review for The Christian Home Magazine soon!)
For those with boys who’ve participated in Cub Scouts, was the Pinewood Derby as big of an event for them as it has been for my boys? And, do they go ‘all out’ to make a slick design and really try to win or do they just enjoy the ride like mine have done?
Come back tomorrow to see what I’ll blog about next with the topic of Scouting with Boys.
