Today I am grateful for boys who love to read.
While I am a voracious reader (in case you haven’t guessed from all the book reviews I’ve done the past few years!), that was never a guarantee that the boys would enjoy reading nearly as much as me.
When the boys were younger, they loved to hear stories read to them, whether by Mr. O, myself, or an audiobook. But, even after P learned to read he didn’t want to read. That is until he said the ‘b’ word (parents know this one…bored!) and I ushered him to the bookshelf in our basement where we were doing our schoolwork.
We’d been homeschooling just a few months at that time and he was in 4th grade. Sitting on the shelf was a book he’d chosen from a summer reading program at Berean Christian Stores ~ The Door Within: The Door Within Trilogy – Book One. He quickly became hooked and then requested the other books in the trilogy for Christmas that year. There was no looking back for him and now there are days I have to pry a book from his hands to get him back on track with other work.
The younger boys didn’t need that kind of epiphany moment, though they still need books pried from hands at times. J’s on track to be like his big brothers. Monkey see, monkey do ya’ know!
What are YOU grateful for today?
If you blog and are interested, Brenda at Garden of Learning is hosting this challenge for the month of November. No need to participate daily, either. My goal is to post pretty much daily like last year. Yet, I know that sometimes life intervenes.
