Today I am grateful for my Nutrimill and Bosch mixer, purchased from Wholy Living up here in Alaska.
We have made homemade bread for years using a bread machine. I’m on my third bread machine. The 1st one died a few years back, the 2nd one was gifted to my sister in MD when I got the 3rd one from a friend who was moving (and it had some neat features I knew we’d use.)
For a while, I had thought about getting a grain mill to grind our own grains. So many people went on about the health benefits of doing so. What appealed to us, though, was the cost savings we should see over time. The cheap bread at the store is just that…cheap, full of air and light on nutrition. The heartier breads that we like run upwards of $5 a loaf here. With those growing boys always asking for more food, the idea of making super healthy bread for about $1 a loaf held great promise.
I am still combing the internet and trying out different recipes. Some are definite winners while others are just ‘okay’ for the family. Maybe by the time a year of ownership hits, I’ll have amassed an array of bread recipes that can be counted on to satisfy my hungry brood.
Aside from making bread, I love the slicer/shredder attachment for quickly grating a large quantity of cheese. That’s another cost savings area since buying bulk (5 lb.) blocks of sharp cheese at Costco is far less than getting smaller bricks at the local store or even pre-shredded cheese.
We also use the Bosch for making multiple batches of pizza dough. And, one attachment the package came with was a roller flaker so we can make fresh oatmeal (or barley flakes, etc.)
The entire package took a big chunk of our tax return to purchase. However, it has been well worth the expense for both our health and pocketbook. For those things, I am quite thankful.
