In our house, D was the puzzle king for ages. By the time he turned 3, he was doing puzzles that the kids in R’s kindergarten class struggled with doing. Outside of the little community of Hope, Alaska, you’ll find a state park area where people still go gold panning. One indulgence we’ve had a few times over the summer is purchasing fried chicken from the Carr’s/Safeway store in town. It’s not the absolute best fried chicken. This summer we found out about an added benefit to being members of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. The first Sunday of each summer month would get us into the Alaska Native Heritage Center! Another mid-July adventure for us was a trip up to the area known as Hatcher’s Pass in the Mat-Su Valley. Up in the hills, there’s the remnants of a gold mining operation known as Independence Mine. As promised on Monday’s post showing our birthday celebration at Red Robin, here’s some ‘fun’ pics compliments of Papa Ray. No wonder I’ve managed to lose weight this past year…my sundae was eaten up by J and D with a few small bites for me.
To celebrate on R’s birthday, we went with Nana and Papa to Red Robin. R was excited to get his free ADULT sized burger. P enjoyed a chili cheese burger that needed a fork and knife to eat. D and J were happy to be eating out. Come back on [Read On]
During the VBS our parish was holding, we had the opportunity to have park time with a few other families. It was a spur of the moment thing, but we all enjoyed the glorious weather we had. D and J enjoy some lunch, including french fries ‘donated’ by one of the families there. [Read On]
We have been quite busy getting out and seeing new sights here in south-central Alaska. Between visitors, summer camps, and our own desire to experience Alaska, we’ve had our weekends pretty much booked up this summer.
