7_quick_takes_sm1.jpg

— 1 — I’m feeling a bit wiped out as I type this up, so no photos to dress up the post this week.  The last 2 days had us driving into Anchorage for some testing prep sessions that our charter school offered.  The boys enjoyed the ‘break’ from regular school.  I think D might [Read On]

My Job Chart for Sanity at Home

MyJobChartLogo-new.jpg

I have boys that seem to think cleaning or doing chores is ‘beyond’ them most days.  I almost want to burn the comic strips as a particular one with a teenaged boy seems to give my teen occasion to avoid work. (Okay, maybe it’s a function of the age. I just think that sometimes what [Read On]

Advent Calendars

advent-button-2011.jpg

One of the traditions for many families is that of the Advent Calendar.  In many ways, though, I’d say they are a way to countdown the first 24 days of December as Advent can start anywhere from November 27th through December 3rd.   I took a little ‘spin’ around Pinterest and found several interesting Advent [Read On]

How do you view movies in your house?

Popcorn Soda Ticket Movie

Like many families out there, we enjoy family movie night time.  Being able to pop some popcorn and pop a DVD into the player to enjoy film is such a blessing for family time as well as helpful for our budget.  (We’d be broke really fast taking the whole family to the theater on a [Read On]

Friday is almost here and I wonder where my week has gone!   -1- Last week I shared about all the snow we got.  Well, it isn’t snowing now.  Instead, we’ve got the bitter cold taking up residence with night time temps going below 0 without considering the wind chill.  It really makes me want [Read On]

Kid Puzzles, great for little and big hands!

image.png

In our house, D was the puzzle king for ages.  By the time he turned 3, he was doing puzzles that the kids in R’s kindergarten class struggled with doing.  He still goes through spurts, but has not wanted to graduate to the more complex puzzles with oodles of tiny pieces.  That’s a good thing [Read On]

Wordless Wednesday ~ Halloween Fun

All photos from our parish Halloween party. J was a soldier and D was a hobo. R wore his Boy Scout uniform as a helper and P was himself as a helper.

Gold Panning Fun

DSC05801.jpg

Outside of the little community of Hope, Alaska, you’ll find a state park area where people still go gold panning.  We scoped it out earlier in the summer and then brought some family members out to experience it first hand.   Our outing was blessed with fantastic weather.  The previous summer had so much rain [Read On]

7 Quick Takes Friday, October 28th

DSC06505.jpg

Friday is about to begin here in Alaska and once again time has flown.     -1- The inevitable happened Wednesday morning.  We got snow at our house.  Anchorage proper didn’t see any and Mr. O was puzzled when he called for his morning check-in and I shared that P was out clearing the driveway.  It [Read On]

Say Anything Family Edition, a TOS Crew Review

SayAnythingFamily.png

Last year we had the opportunity to review Wits and Wagers Family Edition by NorthStar Games.  The boys really enjoyed it and were anxious to review the new Say Anything Family Edition. I think they love Say Anything more than Wits and Wagers as it’s become a new “go to game” since it entered our [Read On]

7 Quick Takes Friday, October 14th

Is it Friday already?  Well, technically I have this going up a few hours shy of Friday in Alaska.  But, it’s past midnight in other parts of the US!   -1-  This past week had Mr. O working up in Fairbanks and the days both dragged and sped along for us. One of the boys [Read On]

Santa Claus House at North Pole, Alaska!

IMG_0630.jpg

After our brief visit to Denali National Park, we went up to Fairbanks to visit my mom’s cousin.  She hadn’t seen him in years and I’m not sure if I’d met him before then.  We ‘camped’ out at his house in the woods in a community outside of Fairbanks.  But, we also did a few [Read On]

Planning for the Holidays

image.png

With October already well underway, it is definitely time to start planning for the holidays.  Seriously, I find that I’ll blink and be staring down Thanksgiving with Christmas just around the corner!  So, now is the time to plan it all out and make my life far less chaotic come late November and into December. My Memories Suite ~ Digital Scrapbooking Made Easy!

My-Album-1-002.jpg

I have a large box full of scrapbooking supplies with good intentions of putting together treasures that everyone in the family would enjoy looking through time and again.  But, it sits untouched.  Not because I don’t want to pull it together.   Rather, I suffer from a three fold handicap. Most of our pictures have [Read On]

The Eternal Struggle ~ Eat or Sleep!

IMG_0518.jpg

One indulgence we’ve had a few times over the summer is purchasing fried chicken from the Carr’s/Safeway store in town.  It’s not the absolute best fried chicken. But when 8 pieces go on super sale for $5, it’s hard to pass up the opportunity.   This summer, J was so worn out from activity while [Read On]

Alaska Native Heritage Center visit, Part I

That is a place on my list of ones to visit, but the admission for all of us was more than we [Read On]

Gold in the Hills, a visit to Independence Mine area

IMG_0521.jpg

Another mid-July adventure for us was a trip up to the area known as Hatcher’s Pass in the Mat-Su Valley. Up in the hills, there’s the remnants of a gold mining operation known as Independence Mine. The day we went was not especially cold, but being that high up made for a chilly visit when [Read On]

Visiting a Town Called Hope

IMG_0508.jpg

It has been a crazy summer in some ways. While we’ve been busy, it has also provided the opportunity to see more of this area of Alaska.   Back in July while we had one visitor with us, we took a trip to a small town called Hope.   This community sits along the southside [Read On]

Opening Wide for Wordless Wednesday

DSCN0174.jpg

As promised on Monday’s post showing our birthday celebration at Red Robin, here’s some ‘fun’ pics compliments of Papa Ray.  No wonder I’ve managed to lose weight this past year…my sundae was eaten up by J and D with a few small bites for me.

More Birthday Celebrations….

DSC03038.jpg

To celebrate on R’s birthday, we went with Nana and Papa to Red Robin.  R was excited to get his free ADULT sized burger.     P enjoyed a chili cheese burger that needed a fork and knife to eat.   D and J were happy to be eating out.   Come back on [Read On]

Summertime Fun at a Local Park

DSC05603.jpg

During the VBS our parish was holding, we had the opportunity to have park time with a few other families. It was a spur of the moment thing, but we all enjoyed the glorious weather we had.   D and J enjoy some lunch, including french fries ‘donated’ by one of the families there.   [Read On]

Summer in Alaska Includes Fishing

DSC05680.jpg

We have been quite busy getting out and seeing new sights here in south-central Alaska. Between visitors, summer camps, and our own desire to experience Alaska, we’ve had our weekends pretty much booked up this summer.   While summer is winding down, we still have a few places we want to visit before winter weather [Read On]

4th of July Fun

DSC05209.jpg

As I continue going through my photos from this summer, I found a few to share from July 4th celebrations.   D and I accompanied P and R for a service project at the local 4th of July celebration.  It was a bit drizzly that night.  However, D and I enjoyed hearing the Band of [Read On]
