Whether you enjoy reading or want to do something fun that can make you money, you’ll love these free ways to stay entertained this winter.
5 Free Ways to Stay Entertained This Winter
Hit the Library
The library is a must for anyone that loves to read. I know that my boys and I go to our local library at least once a week. Sometimes it is more often if they finish reading what they’ve checked out.
An e-reader (like my favorite Kindle Paperwhite my son lost) can be an enjoyable way to read. But, surfing the internet for an ebook is not the same as combing the shelves at your local library.
Going to the library is always a relaxing, entertaining experience for book lovers. It’s a great way to discover new authors and enjoy bestselling books for free.
Many libraries even have cozy places for you to curl up and read. If you need to get out of the house, the library is a great option.
If you do prefer an e-reader over a print book, see what digital options your local library offers. I constantly have books checked out through Overdrive compliments of the library system. I also grab (affiliate) one free Kindle book per month through Kindle First for Amazon Prime Members. I also keep an eye out for free Kindle books on a regular basis. Some are good and others not so good. But, since I didn’t pay anything for the chance to read them I’m okay with it.
Have a Movie Marathon
If you love to watch movies, raid your DVD and Blu-Ray collection and have a movie marathon. You can even choose a theme for the day.
If you want to have even more fun, create snacks or a meal that matches the day’s theme. If you’re home alone, have a romantic comedy marathon and break out the truffles and ice cream.
Depending upon my mood, I can often find DVDs to borrow at our library. Another option is to chat with friends and swap DVDs!
Card games are something that never go out of style. If you’re tired of watching movies or reading, you can break out your trusty deck of cards and have a night of gin rummy or poker. Have younger kids? Play a fun round of Go Fish instead!
Make some quick snacks and you’ve got a great evening planned.
If you’re not into cards, you can also play board or video games you have at home.
Craft or Bake
If you have craft supplies on hand, sit down and spend a day crafting. Crafting is so relaxing and so much fun. It allows you to be creative and make things for your home or your loved ones.
If crafting isn’t your thing, you can also bake. Baking also allows for great creativity and something tasty. Best of all, when you bake from scratch, you can save money and make better quality treats.
Not sure what to make? Check out our FOOD category here to get started. My boys adore the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip muffins any time of the year.
Last, but not least, if you love to talk and love to share, start vlogging. You can post your videos to YouTube and make money doing something fun.
You can vlog about anything. People vlog on crafts, movies, books, drawing, and so much more. Choose a topic you love and get started.
I have several videos on my YouTube channel with many more in process. (If there is something YOU would love to see there, let me know!)
