Springtime came early here in Alaska. While most years we’ve had snow covering parts of our yard until mid-May, this year it was gone by early April. That meant we starting thinking and planning outdoor adventures for the rest of Spring and into the summer.
While I love an off the cuff day spent exploring, I find that there are some basic things we can do to plan our outdoor adventures so that everyone has a good time. They say failing to plan is a plan to fail and when it comes to heading out to enjoy nature in Alaska that is quite true. So, here are 3 Tips to Help You Enjoy Outdoor Adventures regardless of what time of year.
Tips to Help You Enjoy Outdoor Adventures
# 1: Decide where you want to go and evaluate what you might need to make it happen.
A simple walk down a trail at a park requires less planning and equipment than an overnight camping trip. Or there is the fun of swimming, whether at a pool or local lake, with the warmer weather.
If it is someplace you have not visited in the past, then take a look at maps to make sure you know where you are going and where you can park. We have a state park pass on 2 of our vehicles, but if we drive a different one we need to bring the checkbook or exact cash for parking.
#2 Make a checklist of what you need to pack, whether it is staying in the vehicle or going into a backpack to be carried.
Hiking certain trails here means we need to have hiking poles as the ground is quite uneven. Walking on a paved path does not require special shoes while those rugged trails need a good pair of hiking boots.
And, the weather and location will dictate what you should wear. Every so often, we’ve had a child fail to pack a rain jacket and get drenched when the forecast came true!
#3: Bring plenty of beverages and snacks for your time away from home!
My boys seem to get hungry less than an hour after we embark on one of our outdoor adventures. That’s after making them eat a nutritious meal!
I like to have ample snacks and beverages for them to fuel their fun. As you can sometimes get caught up in the moment and stay out longer than planned, having extra is a good thing.
Fruit Shoot® is Made for Adventure
Whether it is a family outdoor adventure or your child’s team sport, Fruit Shoot® is an awesome option for a beverage that kids and parents will like. It is made from a concentrate of real fruit juice with no artificial flavors or high fructose corn syrup. Each serving of Fruit Shoot comes in at 20 calories or less with no more than 3 grams of sugar. The re-sealable cap minimizes the chance of messes, whether knocked over from a picnic table or bouncing around in a backpack.
And, you can find Fruit Shoot in a variety of regular and no sugar added flavors including:
• Apple (no added sugar)
• Berry Burst (regular and no added sugar)
• Orange (regular and no added sugar)
• Strawberry & Raspberry (regular and no added sugar)
• Wild Berry Grape (no added sugar)
My boys are all giving Fruit Shoot a thumbs up. The bottles are cute, there are no spills when drinking with the included cap, and the flavors are all liked.
I really wish I’d had Fruit Shoot available when my older boys were doing soccer on a regular basis.
Like many team sports, each family took a turn providing a snack and some of the options at that time were way more sugar-laden than I would have liked.
When would you provide Fruit Shoot for your family?
