This post about Beautiful Skin Made Possible with Koru Naturals features our thoughts on their Skin Clear Cream, Manuka Honey Propolis Soap, Manuka Honey and Manuka Oil Facial Cleanser and Manuka Honey, and Tamarind and Manuka Oil Facial Toner which we were sent to review.
Earlier this year, our family was fortunate to be introduced to Koru Naturals. We were amazed by their Emu Oil which helped to banish my youngest son’s mild to moderate eczema issues. And, I love how the Emu Oil Shampoo and Leave-In Conditioner made my hair feel after washing. This time around, I was curious to see if products from Koru Naturals would help me achieve beautiful skin instead of the acne prone mess I typically have.
Beautiful Skin Made Possible with Koru Naturals: About the Products and Company
Koru Naturals uses modern technology alongside the ancient traditions of New Zealand to bring products to the world market place. The products emphasize the use of natural ingredients compared to many of the commercially produced products in the United States. The company also strives to have a high intrinsic value to the unique products offered. The name and symbol, Koru, is the Maori name given to the newborn, unfurling fern frond which is meant to symbolize new life, growth, strength and peace. Products offered include active manuka honey, lanolin, tea tree, manuka oil, rosehip oil and Rotorua mud products.
Skin Clear Cream is a product Koru Naturals has been making for 20 years. They’ve improved upon their original formulation although the two primary ingredients (raw, unpasteurized Manuka Honey and pure steam-distilled East Cape Manuka Oil) remain. Additional botanical ingredients added to the new formulation include Kawakawa and Harakeke (two traditional Maori remedies for many skin conditions), Burdock Root (a Chinese root rich in several minerals), Thyme (natural astringent and anti-inflammatory properties), and Canadian Aspen Bark (which serves as a preservative.) The cream works to both improve the appearance of blemished skin and moisturize all skin types. Through continuous use, the skin’s natural moisture barrier is renewed. Koru Naturals does share that this product is not for anyone under the age of 12, women who are pregnant, or individuals with allergies to honey, manuka oil, or tea tree oil.
Manuka Honey Propolis Soap is made from Manuka Honey and Propolis which are known for their natural intense moisturizing and skin protective properties. The soap is considered to be a gentle cleanser.
Manuka Honey and Manuka Oil Facial Cleanser was created to be a deep cleanser which does not irritate or damage sensitive skin. Along with the Manuka Honey and Manuka Oil, you’ll find ingredients such as Aloe Juice and Lavender.
Manuka Honey, Tamarind and Manuka Oil Facial Toner is meant to work in concert with the facial cleanser. Designed to condition acneic, oily, combination and sensitive skin before applying a moisturizer, the toner contains ingredients like Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) and Beta Carotene (Pro Vitamin A) which provide additional protective properties.
Beautiful Skin Made Possible with Koru Naturals: My Thoughts
Okay, I would LOVE to say using this product completely banished my acne problems so they are a thing of the past. However, I had a few trips from home during this review period where I could not bring all of my products with me (so I took several breaks from using them) and other aspects of my normally healthy lifestyle got set aside. Yes, as much as we’d like to ignore it, our skin is definitely affected by what we eat (dairy and sugar increased during and after the trips), exercise was tabled and the amount of sleep I received was significantly diminished. I’m sure becoming dehydrated during the long plane rides between Alaska and Georgia did not help. Honestly, I can say that I saw a shift back towards breakouts with dry spots within the first full day I was in Georgia.
So ladies (and gents), if you are experiencing skin condition issues, take a good look at your lifestyle in addition to what you are placing on your skin. Great products like those from Koru Naturals can only go so far to minimize the damage done by poor lifestyle choices. Too much dairy or sugar in my diet is a trigger for me and I have to keep it in check if I want to achieve that beautiful skin.
When I have been diligently washing my face, using the toner and skin cream, I did see an improvement. The environment here in Alaska tends to be dry given the longer cool to cold temperatures. Our house has baseboard heating which uses hot water and is less drying than other options. However, I still find my skin getting dry come this time of year. Even drinking a ton of water seems to barely make a dent in the dryness as my chapped lips will testify. My skin wants to drink in the skin clear cream as soon as I apply it. Now that I’m no longer traveling from home, I expect things to improve again in short order.
My regular routine now is to use the Manuka Honey Propolis Soap in the shower for bathing. The facial cleanser and toner is used afterwards on my face. Then I apply the skin clear cream where it is needed. For now, that is mostly my face and hands. I totally LOVE how my skin feels after going through this routine. My skin feels silky smooth where the cream has been used and I do not have any uneasiness about what is going onto my skin.
I do want to share a note about the Skin Clear Cream. Because of the type of product this is, the consistency is going to be determined by your environment.
Here in Alaska, it is already cool in the house. So mine is rather thick. However, I know that come summertime when the temperatures rise it would be looser. All this to say…do NOT panic if you buy some and does not look exactly like mine looked in October in Alaska.
How do you approach skin care for yourself or family members?
