Do you enjoy watching a film that inspires or motivates you? While I enjoy the entertainment factor, I find some of my favorite movies are ones that had me digging a little into myself and considering ways to be a better person. 23 Blast is one of those types of movies which I recently received to review that not only leaves you feeling good, but considering how you can strive to be better.
About 23 Blast
As a typical teenager, Travis Freeman (Mark Hapka) is a local hero both on and off the high-school football field in his small Kentucky town, but in 1997, Travis contracts an infection that destroys his optic nerve and renders him blind overnight.
With the loving help and concern of his parents, physical therapist, coach and best friend, Travis demonstrates what true bravery is: He continues to compete on the gridiron and helps his team advance to the state finals.

My Thoughts on 23 Blast
If you do not like movies that have a sports theme in them, then you might not like this story either. However, in many ways this particular film has more focus on an individual’s journey with football being a constant in their lives rather than a film which is more focused on the team.
I did enjoy the movie overall and found that some of my boys (who often run out the door now if they think a ‘religious’ film is being viewed) hung around to see what happened. The movie is based on Travis Freeman’s life and does include actual photos and footage at the end. However, the timing of the unfortunate infection which took is sight is different as the real story happened when he was 12 and not in high school. Either way, seeing him accept his new limitations and then find a way to do something he loved is inspiring.
This film received a PG-13 rating, but I had no problems letting my 5 year old watch. Supposedly, the rating was given because of scenes with drinking of alcohol (once on school property and once at a party.) There really wasn’t anything else questionable which has it even approaching many films with that rating.
