We were sent a Be Prepared in Earth Leather (Black/Silver) from Ju-Ju-Be Bags for review. All opinions are my own.
When you are expecting a child, there are several items that end up on the ‘needed’ list. Along with the need for clothing, a crib, and all the personal hygiene supplies (e.g. diapers and baby products for keeping clean), most parents seek out a diaper bag that will be serviceable and fit their lifestyle. Ju-Ju-Be Bags offers a wide variety of solutions for the diapering years and beyond.
About Ju-Ju-Be Bags
If you visit the Ju-Ju-Be website, you’ll see the tagline Smart Bags for Smart People. Ju-Ju-Be bags are just that ~ bags that are fashionable and functional in a way you just won’t find in other diaper bags on the market.
One feature that truly sets them apart is that the are pulling from recent technological developments to make the best bag possible. That includes the anti-microbial lining you will find in all of their bags. And, each bag is machine washable ~ a key feature for something that will have potential contact with bodily fluids.
Bag styles vary and even include designs that a proud papa won’t mind carrying around town. Plus, the inside of each bag offers a lot of cool features including smart pockets, insulated bottle pockets, and memory foam in the shoulder pads.
Meet Ju-Ju-Be Bags’ Be Prepared
For my review, I was sent the Be Prepared in Earth Leather in Black/Silver ($300 retail.) This is the “Cadillac” of Ju-Ju-Be Bags’ product line. Not only is the bag made from earth leather, an eco-friendly alternative which is machine washable. But, the Be Prepared bag is large enough for this mama of a now potty trained boy to use for a weekend trip. (Note ~ at this time, the earth leather option is not available, the fabric ones are $180.)
I love the feel of the earth leather and how durable the bag’s construction is. The size is amazing and I wish this bag had entered my life years ago. We cloth diapered all of the boys to some extent, with one son being cloth diapered even on day trips around town. One downside for cloth diapering is how much room your ‘stash’ needs for transport and housing. The Be Prepared bag would easily hold a few outfits and several cloth diapers plus all the additional paraphernalia you typically find in a diaper bag. Alternatively, this would be an awesome bag for the mom of multiples as you really could carry it all in here.
The lining of the bag seems rather durable and I love knowing that it’s treated to be anti-microbial. The bag also has plenty of pockets and ways to help keep all the needed items organized, too.
I have to admit that when I first became a mom it was more about the ‘cute’ diaper bag than considering how long it might last and whether I’d be helping spread germs or contain them. Looking back, the cute Classic Pooh diaper bag we were gifted while awaiting the birth of our first son was just that…cute. By the time P was a year old, the inside plastic lining was shredding and the cloth fabric was dingy looking and hard to keep clean. I don’t forsee the Ju-Ju-Be bags suffering from those same issues.
This photo below shows the Be Prepared bag full of clothing for a 3 day trip. Considering we live in Alaska and a sweater or sweatshirt is needed even on a summer evening, I can honestly say this particular bag holds a lot. Plus, it is quite stylish and doesn’t scream ‘diaper bag’ when I’m carrying it.
Ju-Ju-Be Bags gets an enthusiastic endorsement from this veteran mama. The Be Prepared is definitely one that I could see a new mama wanting as it can be used for the diapering years and beyond. While the cost of Ju-Ju-Be bags might have a few balking, I can say that I’d rather spend the money upfront for a bag I love and can use for many, many years than having that cute Classic Pooh bag which cost around $50 over 16 years ago and lasted just over a year.
