About Longing for Home

Screen-Shot-2013-05-10-at-11.22.53-AM-430x652Though she was only a child during the darkest days of Ireland s Great Famine, Katie Macauley feels responsible for the loss of her family s land and the death of her sister. Now a woman grown, Katie has left Ireland for America and the promise of earning money enough to return home again and plead for her family s forgiveness. She arrives in Hope Springs, Wyoming Territory, a town sharply divided between the Americans who have settled there, with their deep hatred of the Irish, and the Irish immigrants who have come searching for a place to call home. Her arrival tips the precarious balance, and the feud erupts anew. Even in the midst of hatred and violence, however, Katie finds reason to hope. Two men, as different as they are intriguing, vie for her heart, turning her thoughts for the first time toward a future away from Ireland. Katie must now make the hardest decision of her life: stay and give her heart a chance at love, or return home and give her soul the possibility of peace.

My Thoughts on Longing for Home

I really LOVED this title.  The romance story is sweet and I found myself longing for more even after I was done reading the novel.

While this story possesses mention of Christian living, it is not written like some romance stories where an aspect of Christian living is a primary focus of the story.  Instead, you could sense the importance different characters placed upon living their faith and how those with similar values were drawn together.

While I have never lived in a community that was so bitterly divided along ethnicity, I have talked with plenty of people who have experienced it first hand.  Ms. Eden’s description seemed to ring true to what I had been told from the experiences of others, too.  And ,I could envision how challenging life would have been for the residents of Hope Springs, Wyoming so many years ago.

If you are longing for a romance story without the negative approach that our modern culture seems to esteem, then I definitely recommend this one.  (I noticed that a sequel is planned for next year, too.  I can hardly wait!)
