Best 2013 Summer Movies for Boys, especially teens! #SeeSteelFirst #ad

I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

This post on the Best 2013 Summer Movies for Boys (especially teens!)was written by me on behalf of Warner Bros.

Summertime in Alaska often means getting outdoors to enjoy all we can.  We spent Memorial Day weekend in the RV clamming on the Kenai Peninsula and will be back down that way in July for dip netting as a family.  In between all the fun outdoor stuff, there are also those days which are cold and wet.  That’s when I start thinking about the best 2013 summer movies for boys, especially teens.

Best 2013 Summer Movies for Boys Pin

Best Summer Movies for Boys, especially teens ~ Iron Man 3Iron Man 3Even though I often find that some sequels are lacking, this is a particular series that is just fun to watch!  Tony Stark definitely has some cool gadgets to help him be a super hero without having true ‘super’ powers.  I’m curious to see if he finally answers the question “does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?”

Best Summer Movies for Boys, especially teens ~  The Kings of Summer

The Kings of Summer Movie Poster (431x640)I adore coming of age types of movies and this one is completely focused on teenaged boys!  Unhappy with their life, the head to the wilderness to live off the land.  During the process, they discover family is important and something you can not fully escape.

Best Summer Movies for Boys, especially teens ~ Lone RangerThe Lone Ranger 2013I suspect this movie will have fun action with some clever wit.  Boys will love the action and moms will love Johnny Depp!  The storyline? “Native American warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) and man of the law John Reid (Armie Hammer) are opposites brought together by fate and must join forces to battle greed and corruption.”

Best Summer Movies for Boys, especially teens ~ Red 2

Red 2 Movie Poster (410x640)My eldest son, husband and I loved watching Red together.  They did a fantastic job blending action / adventure with comedy.  So, Red 2 is definitely on our must see list.  The ‘gang’ is reunited to track down a missing portable nuclear device. “Outgunned and outmanned, they have only their cunning wits, their old-school skills, and each other to rely on as they try to save the world—and stay alive in the process.”

Best Summer Movies for Boys, especially teens ~  The Wolverine

The Wolverine (600x407)Boys typically love action packed stories and the X-Men franchise has been quite popular in our house.  Wolverine is a favorite character and I suspect this one will be well received, too.  This film has Wolverine in Japan where “vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.”

Best Summer Movies for Boys, especially teens ~  Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters Still (600x450)My boys have loved reading these books.  The first movie, while not as good as the book, was still a fun show to watch.  For those who haven’t read the books, here’s the synopsis for Sea of Monsters: “To save their world, Percy and his friends must find the fabled and powerfully magic Golden Fleece. Embarking on a treacherous odyssey into the uncharted waters of the Sea of Monsters (known to humans as the Bermuda Triangle), they battle terrifying creatures, an army of zombies, and the ultimate Evil.”

Best Summer Movies for Boys, especially teens ~ Man of Steel

Man of Steel Billboard

Super heroes are definitely big in our house.  However, most of the Superman movies we’ve seen in the past have left us feeling disappointed.  The basic plot is like the original Superman movie: “A child sent to Earth from a dying planet is adopted by a couple in rural Kansas. Posing as a journalist, he uses his extraordinary powers to protect the his new home from an insidious evil.”

However, Man of Steel’s trailer paints a completely different style of movie than those that came before and is definitely getting a closer look from us.

What is really exciting is that for the first time ever you can purchase tickets at Walmart for an exclusive advance screening of Man of Steel held on Thursday, June 13th at 7 pm.   I noticed the sign for these tickets when visiting my local Walmart and was pleased to see not only that they will have it in a theater near us, but that the tickets will not cost me an arm and a leg.  (It’s normally $11 for adults and $8 for kids at that time of day at our closest theater. IMAX is $17 for adults and $13.50 for kids.)

Now, the big question for me is 2D or 3D.

What movies are on your must see wish list for the summer?
