Many thanks to Rachael Anderson, author of The Reluctant Bachelorette, for guest posting here today. I really appreciate authors writing engaging stories that I would not be embarrassed about the boys reading over my shoulder. (Don’t forget to check out my review and the book blast giveaway posts, too!)
From the perspective of a reader, if you’re in the market for a good, clean romance, they are HARD to find, which is sad to me. Call me old-fashioned, but I think this world could really benefit from better books–and movies and TV shows. It drives me nuts when writers say that what they write doesn’t impact readers, because like it or not, it can and does.
Take a look at the changes in media over the past several decades and parallel them with the changes in our world. We’ve gone from a time when books and shows portrayed sex outside of marriage as not a good thing, to a time where it’s no big deal to sleep around or view pornography. As a mom, this really scares me because I read about how STD diagnosis’s are higher than they’ve ever been before. As are teenage pregnancies, abortion, divorce, sexual abuse, addictions to pornography, etc. The list goes on an on.
That’s not the sort of world I want for my kids. Which is why I write clean, fun, uplifting romances about characters with strong moral values. It’s my way of fighting back one book at a time.
