My boys love all the superhero comic movies out there. Truth be told, I enjoy most of them, too. Spiderman is a favorite and we own all three of the movies with Toby McQuire as Spiderman.
When The Amazing Spider-Man came to theaters, we were interested in viewing it and seeing how it compared to the first three movies. However, we didn’t get to see it there and opted to wait until it was released on DVD. The only connection to that movie in our house is a little window cling that J got at Carl’s Jr. during the theatrical run.
We were thrilled to hear that you could pre-order The Amazing Spider-Man by picking up what looks like a DVD or BluRay case at your local Wal-Mart. Beyond the price already being close to what the release day price will be, the pre-purchase route gives you access to the movie on VUDU starting on October 30th! And, the movie in the format you purchased will be sent to you via mail to arrive by the scheduled released date of November 9th so long as you pre-purchase and enter your information by November 2nd.
This past Saturday, we drove over to our local Wal-Mart in the morning looking at the fresh dusting of snow that fell in the wee hours.
D and I were helping staff the Cub Scout Pack popcorn sales table. Two hours outside, even with jackets, gets cold after a while. So, I took a break to pop inside and pick up my pre-purchase package.
There is the option for either DVD or a Blu-ray combo package that will include a limited edition mask DVD case. Since we have a Blu-Ray player in the house, that’s the route I choose to go.
Now, I had seen the signs at Wal-Mart about VUDU before now, but had not really looked into it. Then, this week I got an email from Sam’s Club about signing up for VUDU and getting a free movie from a limited selection on their site just for becoming a member. Basically, VUDU is an online service that streams to your computer or several other internet capable devices to provide access to movies that you’ve either purchased and have an ultraviolet code OR to rent.
Signing up was easy. I went to the URL included in my The Amazing Spider-Man pre-purchase package and entered my code.
It then gave me the option to either log in with my VUDU account information or set up a new account. Even though you can purchase movies in VUDU or rent them, the sign up process did not require that I provide my credit card information.
One you are done, you can see which movies are in your account as well as the options for creating a wishlist.
Now the tough bit is choosing that free movie to watch and make sure VUDU is working correctly through our BluRay player or the XBOX 360 the boys just bought OR having to wait until the end of October to have a get together with friends and watch The Amazing Spider-Man before it hits stores.

Looks exciting! We probably will just rent it since my husband never wants to watch movies a 2nd time, though.

Johanna,
My husband is typically the same way. But, the boys will watch some movies a good dozen or more times in a year.
we love spiderman
That’s interesting, I had never heard of VUDU. We haven’t seen the new Spider-Man movie yet so I’ll have to look for it the next time I’m at Walmart.

I am seriously so excited for this movie! I picked up our pre-order copy and we’re going to have a big Halloween party watching the digital release on Halloween night with my family and friends. I love that I get early access to the movie digitally because I’m really not a patient person!

My boys are not patient either, Amber! I didn’t get the pre-order case hidden before the almost 3 year old saw it and he was clambering to watch Spiderman NOW! Thankfully, he is young enough to not know the difference between different Spiderman movies.
We are super excited to host a viewing party the Friday after Halloween, too.
I can’t wait to see this!!
