Kashi’s Chocolate Soft-Baked Squares

I love chocolate and have a little bit just about every day.  The boys would join me on that track as they all have a sweet tooth.  However, not all chocolate options are created equal.  And, I really like to keep my choices on the healthy side whenever possible.  Hence, my excitement over being part of a review of Kashi’s Chocolate Soft-Baked Squares.

Now, I’ve partaken of a variety of products under the Kashi label over the years.  I’ve enjoyed cereals and  granola bars. But, I hadn’t tried anything quite like the chocolate squares.

About Kashi

Founded in 1984, Kashi is a pioneering natural food company dedicated to providing great tasting, nutritious foods that help people feel their best so they can do the things they want to do. As a natural lifestyle leader for more than 25 years, Kashi is on a mission to help people feel healthier and happier.

The Kashi Chocolate Soft-Baked Squares come in packages of 5.  They look like brownies, but pack a lot of nutritional power in each serving.  Instead of empty calories, you’ll find 4 grams of fiber, 10 grams of whole grains and only 160 calories and 6 grams of fat per square.  Ingredients include sweet potatoes and black beans.  Don’t tell the kids, though, as they probably won’t even suspect there are vegetables and beans in their treat!

The boys and I all sampled the squares and agreed upon a few things.  First off, they do not taste anything like a brownie which is what they resemble in appearance.  Secondly, the squares taste much better when slightly warmed rather than eating them straight from the package.  I think it was a combination of texture and flavor change that made the warmed squares preferable.

However, they all agreed that they would eat them if offered.  Personally, I think some healthier items are an acquired taste as your palate and mind tend to want the high fat, sugary items when the choice is offered.  Thankfully, my boys are willing to give many different foods a try.  Knowing that Kashi’s got me covered with healthy snack options like this one makes this mother feel a bit better about not always making everything from scratch.

I enjoyed mine with a bit of strawberry for an evening snack, as seen below.  Are you hungry yet?

I didn’t realize the variety they have to offer! I’m interested in the Pumpkin pecan granola bars and the peanutty Dark Chocolate Granola Bars since my family enjoys snacking on this type of thing.

I’m familiar with Kashi cereals and breakfast bars, but I had no idea they had frozen foods – especially pizza! cool.

  4. Kym,

I haven’t tried their frozen foods, either. That pizza looks great and one of my sisters had one and said it was good.
