In a unit study the older boys and I have been doing, we were elated to see a fun movie listed for a family movie night. The movie is National Treasure with Nicholas Cage and one that sits in our big movie binder on the front hall closet shelf. It’s been passed over as a movie suggestion for a while as the older boys usually have a long list of newer films they want to view.
When they were done watching this movie, though, P commented that he’d forgotten just how much he liked the film. Guess that means we might revisit a few more from our collection in the cold winter months…and most likely picking up National Treasure 2 from the library soon.
About National Treasure~
Benjamin Franklin Gates is a historian who has treasure hunting in his blood. As a youth, he heard his grandfather tell the tale of a great national treasure hidden by the founding fathers during the American Revolution. On an arctic expedition, he finds an artifact that connects to the fabled national treasure. This reignites Gates’ desire to find this treasure all before his previous employer gets it. Who will get to the Declaration of Independence first and unlock the secrets it holds?
Our Thoughts ~
Now, some of the movie is just down right silly and really stretches plausibility. But, it is a fun ride with lots of references (both verbal and visual) to landmarks and assorted symbols and history of the nation. We enjoyed watching the scenes in Philadelphia and having the older boys say “hey, we’ve been there before!” for a few of the spots highlighted.
Aside from some language and violence, there is not much to offend in the movie. So, I felt comfortable letting all the boys watch. (J fell asleep right after it started, though.)
