Back when I first wrote about Lynda.com, I shared some of my plans for how we’d use this in our home. Between weeks of multiple power outages and one week of a really nasty illness invading the house, that got put onto the back burner with the boys. Instead, I’ve been watching bits and pieces of different videos to help me better utilize the software (both on my computer and online) that I already use.
What have I been dabbling in on Lynda.com?
I’ve been learning more about Flickr where I have some photos uploaded, but had not explored all the features available. I’ve also been digging a bit deeper into WordPress as that’s the platform this blog uses. I am even learning some tips to help me better manage my blog’s email through Gmail.
Something I like about the layout is that the video segments are in small bits and well labeled. So, for a tutorial like that for Flickr where I already know how to upload a photo to the site, I can skip ahead to the area with which I am less familiar. You can see from the snapshot of the menu where I jumped into section 7 (indicated by the little eye), skipping segments I was not as interested in knowing about.
Photography is still on my to watch list, but I want to give my full attention to the course and not be sidetracked by an endless parade of requests from the boys.
Lynda is not a static site, either. Rather, they are continually adding new tutorials.
And, you can add those you want to do into your queue for ease of finding them again and knowing how much you have left to watch. Below is a photo from when I started adding courses followed by one after I had watched a portion of the videos.
Subscriptions are by the month or in longer terms with a discounted monthly rate. If you are curious about this website and what it might offer for you, take a look at the sections that are most applicable and watch a few of the free video tutorials.
TWO lucky blog readers will win their own one year subscription to Lynda.com and be well on their way to knowing how to better use the software in their lives. Entries are accepted via the Giveaway Tools form below.
