There is a new online provider being visited in our house for learning: lynda.com, a member supported online learning platform.
With back to school in full swing, I felt the need to give some initial thoughts about this jam packed site. How could I not mention a site that could be the go to place for a homeschooler wanting to have technology courses in their home?
To say that this is almost a one stop shopping place for learning different software packages would be a simplistic way of describing lynda.com. This online training library covers a breadth of software programs as well as offering other training (e.g. photography and video.)
Here is just a sample of the topics covered:
R has been bugging requesting that he have a technology course this year. He wants to learn more about Microsoft products like Word and Excel so he is prepared to use them in his learning. Then, he wants to branch into animation and game creation. P is not as enthusiastic about it, but recognizes that mastering programs like Word and Power Point will help him now and in the future. And, I am always seeking to find ways to be more productive and like the ‘end result.’
You can purchase access by the month or pay a yearly fee as illustrated below.
I hope to share in a few weeks time how the classes the boys and I are taking work for us. The timing is perfect as I have boys eager to learn how to effectively use different software and I must admit to being curious about their photography lessons.
