First Checkpoint in my Quest for Better Health, #Shakeology #Beachbody #Turbo Jam

It’s been 11 days since I officially started my Turbo Jam Challenge Pack and I thought I’d do an update.

I’m following the beginner schedule for workouts, so it isn’t an every day thing.  Last week had 4 days of exercise.  It was supposed to be Monday through Thursday.  But, I twisted my knee on Wednesday night and pushed my Thursday workout back to Friday.

This week is a Monday through Friday schedule and I’m on pace so far.  I’m learning the moves more and the Cardio Party workout on Wednesday had me sweating up a storm.  I’m being challenged each time, but with the modifications to make things low impact I am getting through each workout without having to stop and rest.  This is a FUN workout which makes it easier to keep going, even with the peanut gallery making comments about how silly the workout is or how weird I look doing it.

My diet changes have been harder.  Since starting last Monday, I have not had a single mocha.  I have had a cup of decaf twice with some of the new all natural creamer for taste and one day I had sugar free hot chocolate.  I’ve also been pretty good at avoiding just about all processed sugar and on the few occasions when I had some it was a very little bit.  There was cake at church after Mass on Sunday to celebrate a parishioner’s 94th birthday.  I had a normal sized bite and then tossed the rest.  The Corp of Engineers picnic was harder with so many desserts crying out to be eaten.  I had a brownie bite, a nibble of cookie, and about a Tbsp of a pudding style dessert.  I wanted MORE of it, but just stayed away and ate cherry tomatoes instead.

What is most likely helping me avoid those pitfall foods is the daily Shakeology.  It’s chocolate (a favorite food item!) and can be doctored with fruit, nut butters, spices, etc.  I’m also doing my best to get at least 6 cups of water with 8 as my goal.

Part of the ‘pack’ I purchased was 30 days of premium membership at Team Beachbody.  I know it opened up some boards when it switched from free to premium and it gave me the meal planner as well.  I’ve been inputting everything I eat and want to start actually making some of the suggested meals (that have recipes included) for the balanced eating plan I choose.   I set it to 1700 calories as my goal, but have been trying to stay under 1500.  Over the 10 days, I averaged about 1400 calories per day.

They break down key nutritional information so you can make sure it’s balanced.  On the day shown below, I was lower on fiber than recommended.  However, I have found that I couldn’t match my high fiber bread in the system and knew I was really at a higher mark for the 2 pieces I ate.

Monday June 18 Meal Record

Here’s what a single meal looks like:

Curious about the results so far?

Well, first off my digestion really is in better line.  I’m not feeling bloated like I was typically feeling.

My skin is looking a LOT better.  Blackheads are shrinking and my elbows almost feel as smooth as they did during pregnancy.

For the number crunchers…

I’m down 3 pounds (or more as I felt like I was retaining fluid yesterday morning when I weighed myself.)

More importantly, I’m down 4 1/4 inches across the measurements, which includes a whopping 2 1/2 inches from my waist and 1 inch from my hips.

Now I’m wondering what would happen if I followed their 10 day kick start plan with calories always at 1300 and doing 10 days of the longer, more intense workouts in the program.

While I was a bit disappointed in the 3 pound weight loss, I like how Team Beachbody has a goal tracker that looks at percentage conquered.  I might need to reconsider my actual goals as time goes on as I’m almost to where I thought my waist should be and my chest isn’t budging at all.

Beachbody Goal Progress

I am already considering what to do after 30 days of Turbo Jam.  Should I continue with it for another month and just rev up the workouts OR do I want to add a new program to the mix?  Lots to ponder over the next 2 1/2 weeks.

For those of you also on a quest for health, how is your journey going?

Great job! I will take losing inches and feeling good any day over what the scale says.

Wow, you’ve done great! That sounds like quite an intense program, and it really seems to be making you feel better.

And, honestly, 3 pounds in 10 days is a lot of weight to lose, to say nothing of all those inches.

    • My head knows that, Annie Kate, but I was so hoping for another pound or two off on the scale. But, hubby reminded me that if I’m building any muscle that will keep the weight loss slower. And, more muscle means a better metabolism.

My husband has been working out for two years now. He hasn’t lost a pound, but has lost quite a few inches on his waist and gained a lot elsewhere. He looks a whole lot better and is 100% healther.

How amazing that you have gotten so far on your waist measurement reduction already! Three pounds is awesome too! Congrats.

    • Thanks, Briana. I have to put it all in perspective as I’d love to just see pounds flying off my body quickly. And, the program I’m using really focuses on tightening the core.

You are doing a great job! I look forward to reading more updates.

I have noticed that as we age, it seems like a few more pounds tend to creep up on us and is hard to get rid of. But it is much better to look at the measurements.
