‘Twas the Night Before Christmas on Blu-Ray
We’re getting into the mood for the holidays a little early by reviewing some Christmas themed shows in our house.
One of the shows I remember enjoying as a young child is ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Warner Home Video has just released it on Blu-Ray with time to get a copy before the holidays truly hit.
Here’s the synopsis (for those that haven’t seen it before now):
For some unexplained reason, letters to Santa Claus are being returned to the children of Junctionville. It seems some sour soul has angered St. Nick, calling Christmas “a fraudulent myth!” The skeptical rodent Albert Mouse has to be brought to his senses “and let up a little on the wonder why.” How Albert is persuaded to change his tune paves the way for Santa’s jolly return to Junctionville — and the joyous finale of this charming animated fable inspired by Clement Moore’s poem. Joel Grey, Tammy Grimes, John McGiver and George Gobel are featured voices. Approx. 23 minutes. Year: 1974
Now, one of the first comments by the boys was at the quality of this show having been digitally re-mastered for its release on Blu-Ray. Mr. O will say he doesn’t see a difference from DVD to Blu-Ray, but we sure can!
The boys won’t count this among their absolute favorites to watch, but they did enjoy our viewing for this review. We talked about how there was inclusion of prayer by the townspeople as well as trying to action. Seeing the character at fault for the problems have to fix it himself was also a great reinforcement on problem ownership. (Amazing what a homeschooling parent can pull from a 23 minute long animated show!)
We also enjoyed one of the special features found on the Blu-Ray disc ~ a look at Christmas around the world. It was interesting to see how Christmas is celebrated in some countries and just might be a segment viewed again when we do our Christmas Around the World lapbook this December.
‘Twas the Night Before Christmas Deluxe Edition on Blu-Ray includes a DVD disc of the show.
