-1- Winter has started to take hold here. We had some snow on Sunday and more on Monday. So, Monday morning was a wash when it came to school work for the boys. Too hard to compete with the lure of enough snow to sled. J joined them for fun, too, which surprised the big boys as he hated the snow last year.
-2- P finally had his Board of Review and attained the rank of Star. R is ready for a Scoutmaster conference for Tenderfoot and will hopefully have his board of review later this month.
-3-Just over a week ago, I nearly had a heart attack when I got onto the scale. It said I’d gained 10 pounds since the last time I had weighed myself. Mr. O told me to calm down and remember that this scale flakes out at times. Sure enough, it went back down..but not all the way down. I think all those goodies making appearances at places are having an impact.
-4- J and D both had their well child visits this week. The pediatrician commented about J’s growth spurt and how the babe who used to be down around the 25th percentile is now up in the 90th for weight (33 lbs.). As for his head, well it’s maxed out the charts and he’s not far behind for height (36.5 in.) I do wish vaccinations didn’t lead to fever as that’s what we had starting early this morning.
-5- **Warning: Confession from the Mommy Chronicles to follow**
Also at that doctor’s appointment, J let slip one of the foul words he’s picked up from the big brothers. I got a quizzical look from the pediatrician who asked if he just heard what he thought he heard. I couldn’t deny it. I never thought I’d have a 2 year old who knew how to curse. This mama hangs her head in shame and wishes there was a way to banish the bad words permanently. Sadly, once P learned them all from a fellow student on the bus during his first week of kindergarten, they entered the house and have never left.
I try to model better verbal expression and do not personally use those words. But, the boys see ‘power’ in the words and won’t give them up completely. If another parent has a great idea to make it stop, I’d love to hear it.
-6- I’m in desperate need of a Costco run for some essentials (like frozen veggies.) Today’s high winds led to less than ideal driving conditions, so we drove straight home from co-op today after Mr. O called to say the roads and traffic were a nightmare. No Costco for me which led to an improvisation for tonight’s dinner (frozen Mexican food I had in the big freezer plus canned corn which all the boys really enjoyed.) Praying I can get there tomorrow and stock up on necessities.
-7- P was super excited to have Forbidden by Ted Dekker make it’s appearance here for review. He immediately snatched it up to read before me and quickly devoured the book. Now if I could only get some good sentences summarizing what he thought without dragging it out of him! Now I’m reading it to form my own opinion.
