-1- Last week I shared about all the snow we got. Well, it isn’t snowing now. Instead, we’ve got the bitter cold taking up residence with night time temps going below 0 without considering the wind chill. It really makes me want to stay home and not go anywhere.
-2- One thing I forgot to mention last week… The Sunday before last while driving home from Mass we had a raven literally keeping pace with our vehicle. P insists it was staring AT us. After a few minutes, it swerved off but still seemed to follow us until we stopped at the grocery store. I keep forgetting to go check and see what kind of ‘meaning’ that might have. All I know is we’ve never seen a bird do that.
-3- P and R enjoyed their merit badge lock-in last weekend, although they have lots of follow up work to do before they’ve actually earned their merit badges. R also got the first aid requirements for rank advancement signed off. If he can find the focus, he just might advance to First Class rank a little faster than P did. He’s scheduled for his first Board of Review for Tenderfoot rank on December 6th.
-4- Last night the boys helped make dinner. We had boxed mac n cheese as Mr. O was at Fort Greeley for the day and wouldn’t be home for dinner. When he did get home late last night, I was informed that Fairbanks was so cold (-40 degrees is what I think he said) that is HURT to breathe. Not sure this mama with asthma in her history wants to experience that kind of fun.
-5- D got his prizes for selling popcorn at the Cub Scout Pack meeting last night. We’d forgotten to put in his ‘order’, so he got a surprise grab bag. He liked the items (a mini flashlight, a small kite and a one of those pocket lights on a keychain.) Sadly (or maybe to be expected), the mini flashlight already is not working. Glad he got his 2 minutes of use from it ;o)
-6- I seriously need a pair of gloves to wear during the day. Maybe with no fingers, like these:
Unless I’m washing dishes in hot water, my hands are continually COLD. Holding a warm beverage helps, but I can only drink so much coffee (calories) or tea in a day. I suppose actually exercising for 30 or so minutes might help, but I’ve been too cold to want to do it!
Then again, maybe I need something like these that allow for hand warmers, too!
-7- Finally, for those in the US that love Starbucks, this is the weekend to go with a friend at pick up a holiday hot beverage. The boys are already considering what they want to get with the buy one get one offer that runs through the 20th at participating locations between 2 and 5 p.m. I’m excited that they now have a Skinny Peppermint Mocha. 110 calories for a Tall seems quite reasonable for an afternoon treat!
