Earth science is a particular area of great interest to my boys. For years, they have collected rocks like mad men whenever given the chance. When faced with the question of which Rock N Learn title they wanted to view next, the resounding answer was “Earth Science!”
The topics one would expect for an overview of Earth Science are present on the DVD:
The viewer learns a bit about rocks in the geology center. My boys love to see fossils and there is discussion in this section of the video about them. For my Christian homeschooling friends, be forewarned that this is NOT a young earth approach when it comes to the age of the Earth. Personally, I have no issue with it as we do not subscribe to that particular theory.
The Topographic Learning Center fills a child’s desire to learn a bit about volcanoes. R went through a period where he was obsessed with them and pretty much knew everything covered in this segment. But, it was still fun for him to watch.
Visiting the Energy and Resource Learning Center provided them with an overview of our renewable and non-renewable energy sources. With the gas pipeline up here in Alaska, the boys get a steady dose of discussion on that particular natural resource.
After they watched the DVD, the menu provided an option for a quick ‘quiz’ to see what they remember. While some homeschoolers are not big on tests, we do have required testing. This provides a quick way to become familiar with the types of questions they might encounter without the stress of a time limit.
Earth Science on DVD retails for $19.95. You can find many more DVD and CD options to help your child learn on the Rock N Learn website.

What a great product! My daughter is also obsessed with collecting rocks and learning all about them and the planet Earth! I think we might just need this!
I’m interested in these as a supplement to our studies in astronomy, botany and other earth sciences
