We love to read new books in our house, especially for J who gets into a rut with his favorite books.
The Lion’s Deceit by Mpho Otukile provided that opportunity as we recently read it for review.
The back cover has the description:
A lazy lion goes against his real nature by tricking other animals so he can get some food without hunting. Will the lion get away with his plot? Find out in this beautifully, illustrated story.
We enjoyed the story overall and the message of not taking short cuts to get your work done. Having boys in the house, my older guys would have loved a version with more ‘gore’ included rather than just mention of what the lion was doing. But, I am glad the author left that detail to your imagination.
The illustrations were nice in this picture book, too. Including several animals beyond lions that you would find in the African landscape.
I can’t say that it is in J’s top books to read at the moment. But given his age of almost 2 and a little younger than the target children’s audience, I’m sure he’ll enjoy it more as time passes.
