Decking the Halls (aka O’s Living Room) for the Holidays…
This year we did not get a tree in the house until Christmas Eve. Mr. O and P went and ‘harvested’ it from base late in the day on Thursday, so it sat it the heated garage overnight to acclimate. Next year we hope to go select and cut down the tree a little earlier that what happened this year.
Now we have a ‘real’ tree in the house. Mr. O got his wish and I got mine as the permit to take one tree was free! Since these are not trees grown to be Christmas trees, you don’t get some perfect looking specimen. But, I am not complaining.
As I was busy getting out the door to rehearse for Christmas Eve Mass, I did not do much of the tree decorating. This was a first as I’m usually the primary decorator. It felt liberating to let the boys do it…and we did not even put up all the ornaments we own.
Sadly, I need to go through the ornament box this next week to toss out those that did not survive the move. I didn’t think to inventory the Christmas boxes for damaged items after we moved in this spring.
We also made due with broken stocking holders (the heavy bottom sections were useable, but the decorative tops broke off. We’ll try to fix them this week. Each boy has their own stocking, made with love by their Grandma Jackie.
On a different thread….Christmas Eve Mass went well. I’m probably my own worse critic (and counter of the mistakes I make.) No one complained about my less than stellar piano playing. Instead, I had several people come up and thank me for playing. One lady said that while she plays there is no way she’d do it at Mass. We ended up skipping Breath of Heaven during the pageant as the kids forgot to stop for it!
The lady who is coordinating the Children’s Choir this year even gave me a little gift which caught me completely by surprise. I just love this cute, polar bear wind chime. It’s hanging inside for now as it’s just too cold outside for it.
