Earth Mama Angel Baby LLC. has several products available for pregnant or nursing mothers and their babies. Among these offerings is their Organic Milkmaid Tea.
Why have a tea FOR nursing mothers?
Well, aside from the fact that nursing mothers need to drink plenty of fluids, there are times when breastfeeding challenges have a mother looking to boost her supply a bit.
And so enters the use of herbs to help boost supply.
Rather than going out and collecting all the different herbs that have been used to help increase milk supply, Organic Milkmaid Tea is a product that combines them for you in an easy to use format. Just steep the tea bag for 5 to 10 mintues and enjoy!
Since having Little J, I have not experienced any significant milk supply issues. But, I DID go through a cycle of low supply when R was 4 months old and I had a ‘lovely’ tummy bug. It took a few weeks to get my supply back up then and I didn’t have a product like Organic Milkmaid Tea to use at that time. Instead, I was trying to gather up different herbal supplements to take and figure out the dosage needed.
The few days when I drank a cup of this tea, Little J seemed to nurse a bit more and get more milk. Whether it was a true boost in supply or just the hint of a flavor he really liked, I can not say for certain. Either way, I saw a difference in nursing pattern and length.
I did try a different brand of tea targeting breastfeeding mothers when D was little. And, I didn’t care for it. I found the blend of flavors in Organic Milkmaid Tea to be more appealing. The herb that provided the strongest taste is probably the anise. So, if you absolutely can not stand licorice in any form, then this tea’s taste might turn you off. I found it good with a little agave nectar added for sweetness.
Since it is a blend of organic herbs, the tea is caffeine free. The only calories you’ll garner from this are ones that you add if sweetening to taste. While I drank it hot, I would think you could brew it up and cool it down during hot weather months.
Finally, I need to point out that this tea is NOT recommended for use during pregnancy. This is because some of these herbs have a emmenagogue effect…basically stimulating the uterus and menstruation. I found that to be true as my cycle free time came to an end the day after my first 2 cups of tea. I knew I was teetering on the edge with regards to fertility, but wasn’t sure if a cup or two of the tea would tip the scale. It did and I would definitely avoid this product if pregnancy was suspected.
You can find Earth Mama Angel Baby products at different retailers or order online. I’ve seen them mostly in baby specialty stores in communities where I’ve lived. One box of the Organic Milkmaid Tea contains 16 tea bags for brewing and retails for $6.19. You can find other organic teas for use during pregnancy, breastfeeding or beyond as well as other products to support those times in your life.
