To date, the longest we’ve ever travelled has been for a 2 week visit to my parents’ house in Louisiana. For many summers in a row, the boys and I would load up the van and hit the road for a 2 day drive from Ohio down to Louisiana. Once there, we’d often stay for about 2 weeks. After all, if you are going to spend 4 days just travelling somewhere, it would seem a pity to leave after a short stay. But, once the 2 week mark was approaching the boys started missing their dad and were ready to head back home.
Now that we are living up in Alaska, the ability to just hop in the van and head on down to visit family is NOT a short trip. Rather, the thousands of miles we’d have to drive would make it well over a week just to get there. With Little J in the house, I don’t plan on making such a long journey anytime soon ~ at least not by driving!
The book will take you through three basic ‘steps’ of achieving an extended trip : Why take an extended trip? But what about…(money, time, safety, etc?) and How do we go about making this trip? Each is addressed in turn with both food for thought and some practical ways to tackle objections.
While I don’t foresee taking an extended trip in the immediate future, I am inspired to dream a bit. We’ve heard that the long ride from Alaska through Canada to the lower 48 is full of beauty. There are plenty of people and places to visit along the way to see family in either Louisiana or New York. Even the idea of RVing (or at minimum a pop-up camper) seems like the perfect way to see the country and not go broke.
