Getting Ready for my Two Day Continuing Education and great deals

I am so excited that Stephen took today off from work.  That will enable me to attend BOTH days of the homeschool conference put on by IDEA.  Considering it only costs me $4 per day to park, the gas to get there and back each day (about 20 minute drive each way), and whatever I buy for lunch….well, it’s an opportunity I don’t want to miss.

P is coming as my helper, although I don’t know if he’ll be a helper both days.  So, I am going to prioritize which sessions to sit in on and maybe do a quick run through the vendor hall today.  There are some great sessions scheduled to be presented by Adam Andrews (Center for Literary Education), Jim Weiss and Cindy Wiggers.  I just bought Teaching the Classics from the Center for Literary Education, so having the opportunity to hear Adam speak is great timing.  I’ve yet to watch the teacher DVDs and I really want to kick off our study of literature with this program soon.

I also need to remember to place my order for the new products out from All About Spelling this weekend.  Each time they release a new product, the company offers a discount for the first week of sales.  Well, since we now LOVE All About Spelling in our house, I don’t want to miss out on the 20% discount.  The new products are All About Spelling Level 6 and The Queen Bee (the next reader in the series we’ve been reviewing for the TOS Homeschool Crew this year.)  The discount ends this coming Monday, April 26th.

Another company we love is doing a new format for sales.  In the Hands of a Child now offers a $5 ebook of the week (or $7 for the type it in ebook option.)  The project pack featured changes each Wednesday.  Right now is Spiders (not a subject I personally want to study, but I know there are plenty that like those little creatures!) Somehow I missed seeing this when it started (certainly NOT because I was in the midst of moving with a fussy babe!)   Now, I make it a point to visit their website each Wednesday to see if the featured project pack is one on my wishlist.  Thanks to a few readers clicking through my affiliate button, I now have some dollars to spend on our HOAC addiction.  We just need to find the time to finish up a few to showcase here on the blog.  Currently, we are working on Ocean Habitats (to go along with our study of Apologia’s Zoology 2 book) and are beginning The Human Body for our health studies this last quarter of the year.
