TOS Review – Time4Learning Inital Thoughts

I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

PhotobucketAt the moment, we are reviewing a few different products for the TOS Crew. While some of them are physical products, many of the products I am currently reviewing are electronic (either ebooks or online services.) One that the boys are truly excited to use is Time4Learning.

This product can be best described as an online curriculum site for pre-K through grade 8. Each grade level has the core subjects of language and math. Most of the grade levels also have science and/or social studies included. This could be either a stand alone curriculum or supplemental. Unlike educational computer software, this program allows the user to adjust the grade level for a subject and there are no files to clog up your computer’s hard drive.

Registration was very easy and the account activation was done that afternoon. You get a master account that shows your students and whether their account is currently active. For lower elementary students, you fill in a brief questionnaire to help determine where they are for language and math. Upper elementary (grades 4 through 8) have you pick grade level for language arts and math. Science and social studies are chosen based on the language arts level. For P, I could pick 6th grade language and 5th grade math (since he’s been dragging his feet in this subject for a while and lags behind the typical 6th grader in some areas of math.)

Since being registered on the site last week, we have been trying out different subject areas and I have been looking at the parent side of things. On the parent side, you can view the lesson plans (scope and sequence) to see what topics are covered for that grade level. Once you are logged in as a parent, the lesson plans include more detail including whether the lesson includes supplemental worksheets you can print out and testing. When your student is logged in, reports can be pulled up to show what they have completed as well as scores on any quizzes.

P and R only had 2 days of trying out the site before heading out to Grandma’s with dad for a hunting weekend. D has been using it daily since his account was activated. By early next week, I hope to have some thoughts to share about how Time4Learning is working for our family.
